The questions in this section are about “your” laptop, which can be a chromebook, a laptop, or a borrowed laptop.  The laptop that you use should have internet access (wired or wireless)

Your laptop

What laptop are you using to answer the questions here? Where is the laptop sitting while you are doing this assignment? What is the name of the Wireless network are you connected to that is allowing you to read this page?

Your laptop’s MAC address

What is your laptop's MAC address?  How did you find it?  Give enough information that a person on a laptop of the same model could find this information.

About the MAC address

What does the first half of the MAC address represent? Use the IEEE OUI lookup tool  to find out who made the Network interface controller.

Mac Address in Binary

Give the Binary for your Mac Address by writing the address in 1 byte chunks and showing which Hex characters respond to each part of the address. Indicate which bit is the high-order bit and which bit is the low-order bit.

The importance of the Mac Address

Describe briefly how the MAC address is important to the functioning of the Ethernet protocol.  Where would this address appear in a packet destined for your chromebook?  Where would it appear in a packet leaving your chromebook?
